Eliminating Racism. Empowering Women.
Do you believe you can change the world?
In 1900, the dream to bring together women for a local organization of shared learning and service led to generations of lives changed by YWCA O‘ahu.
In 1920, after years of struggle-filled solidarity, the women’s suffrage movement emerged victorious with the ratification of the 19th Amendment, changing the U.S. Constitution to allow women to vote.
In 1964, the Civil Rights Act was passed, changing the societal view of diversity and inclusion, prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, or national origin.
In 1972, the first Asian-American woman to serve in the U.S. Congress co-wrote Title IX, a key piece of legislation that ultimately changed the course of discrimination based on sex in education programs.
In 1993, a feisty feminist judge became the second woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court and changed the civic landscape for modern-day women’s rights.
In 2020, a network of supporters came together to change the future for women transitioning out of incarceration, saving Hawaii’s only community-based work furlough program from shutting down.
If you have donated to YWCA, you have contributed to these amazing milestones. With a single donation, you can truly change the world.
We continually welcome women of all backgrounds at YWCA O‘ahu to make the impossible possible. From blazing new trails in business and leadership, to breaking past the poverty line for their families, to advocating for racial and social justice, YWCA O‘ahu creates a lifetime of inspiration, ideas and aloha.
As one of more than 200 YWCA affiliates in the nation, YWCA O‘ahu serves as a conduit for change in Hawai‘i and beyond. Our mission of “eliminating racism, empowering women” starts with you – will you make a gift today that will impact equity and opportunity in our society for the next 120 years?
With the gratitude of the women who came before us, and with the heartfelt mahalo of everyone whose lives you'll touch, we thank you for your support.
